Providing IP Education with Amanya I

Youth and Student Testimonials
Robert, ICT Teacher, Wakefield
“We were keen to have a talk on Intellectual Property delivered by Anna Brewin from Amanya IP because many of our students frequently demonstrate a lack of awareness of the importance of copyright and plagiarism.
We hoped Anna would deliver a package that was entirely suitable for classes with a wide range of skills and abilities and we were very pleased as Amanya IP delivered a thoroughly thought-provoking and engaging session to our Year 7 & 8 ICT classes, educating them on what Intellectual Property is, examples of it, how to respect other’s creations as well as learning how to ask others to respect theirs. Anna talked about the importance of different types of IP and avoiding plageurism, but what struck me was the quality of interactivity with all of our students including Pupil Premium, LAC and SEN. Anna circulated the classes and checked all students’ work and provided help and support to all students who needed it. She answered questions very well and provided answers in such a way that students felt at-ease and were comfortable asking any further questions. Students enjoyed the activities and all of them could articulate and explain the need for protection of intellectual property by the end of the sessions.
We would recommend Amanya IP to anyone who feels that their students would benefit from such an insightful and helpful session. Thank you.”

How would you explain IP to an alien?
“IP is something that is your property that can be in many different formats such as music or art. This can be sold, gifted, stolen or borrowed by someone just like an object you own such as your stationery.”
“IP (Intellectual Property) is when someone comes up with something that they want to protect and don’t want copying or stealing by anyone, so they can do certain things to protect it.”
“I’d tell them that it’s your ideas and no one should or is allowed to take them without your permission.”
“Your spaceship is belonging to you. IP is like your spaceship, you can lose it, have it borrowed, have someone steal it, have someone pay you for it. There’s ways to protect it and if you are willing to give it to someone they have to ask for permission.”
