The dangers of infringing intellectual property will come under the spotlight at a business seminar next month.
Every year, fines totalling thousands of pounds are issued against organisations who inadvertently flout IP laws by using unauthorised images on their website or promotional materials.
For many, these hefty fines can have a major impact on the success of their businesses.
Now, organisations across the district are invited to a workshop to help them understand the meaning of IP and the dangers they face for contravening it.
The ‘Don’t Steal My Stuff & Smart IP Live Class’ will be held from 9.30am to 1pm on Tuesday 11 February at Mid Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, First Floor, 11 Longbow Close, Pennine Business Park, Bradley, Huddersfield, HD2 1GQ.
The course will teach business owners the steps to take to protect themselves and their organisations and help them understand the power and purpose of IP. Delegates will receive a free workbook at the end of the course.
The workshop is run by Anna Brewin, an experienced textile designer, who shares her journey in learning Intellectual Property (IP) through trademarks, registered designs, copyright, and American trademark law, alongside other forms of IP.
Her talks and courses, approved by legal professionals, simplify complex concepts with relatable examples, helping individuals become ‘Smart about IP.’
Encouraged by a business coach, Anna created her first course, ‘A Beginner’s Guide to Intellectual Property for Designers and Artists,’ receiving positive feedback from participants eager to safeguard their work.
Further research led to ‘Don’t Steal My Stuff!’—a comprehensive IP introduction for adults, young people, and students. Recognising broader interest, she expanded her offerings to include ‘A Beginner’s Guide to Intellectual Property for Entrepreneurs and Business Owners.’
Anna says: “Through conversations over the years, I’ve found numerous misconceptions about IP among professionals, highlighting the need for education. It’s an area which businesses very often overlook until crises arise.
“I’m passionate about empowering others, and demystify IP by using everyday language and real-life examples to make the subject relevant and intriguing.”
