Natwest Bank is launching a lending proposition enabling companies to leverage their IP value.
So often the subject of Intellectual Property is not known or understood. Or it is understood incorrectly. When networking, I frequently get told incorrect information about IP from the people I talk to such as what type of IP is relevant for me. That’s if the person I’m talking to knows about IP at all – others have no idea what it is, let alone how valuable it is.
In one of my new courses that is geared at school children: ‘Hands Off My Property’ I explain the concept of Intellectual Property in a way they can relate by helping them think of it like any other type of property that they own, such as their phone, their trainers or their suitcase. Things they would value.
I then go on to ask them what they think Intellectual Property is and get them to see that is is a type of property that starts in the mind with ideas and so on. The light bulb goes on and they get it – these things are valuable!
In these uncertain times, Natwest has seen the value of Intellectual Property as a means of helping a company or venture secure funding. This is a good move as funding can be such a challenging area when a company is growing and everything needs to be paid for, yet the potential value of the Intellectual Property may not have been possible to help with these challenges in times past, leaving a company stretched and pulled so much and eager for support.
I know just how important learning about and protecting IP is to a company or venture and I have adapted my ‘A Beginner’s Guide to Intellectual Property for Designers and Artists’ into a new course: ‘A Beginner’s Guide to Intellectual Property for Entrepreneurs and Business Owners’ too. I was finding they were buying my course for Designers and Artists so I created a version tailored towards them. I am at the final stages of it going live. Watch this space as it will be ready soon….
It’s good to see that Natwest is seeing the value of this type of property for a business, as something that can be leveraged to help grow their success and to secure growth funding.
